Braided Screen

Good strength and flex life (needed in applications with repeated cable flexing)

Does work well at all frequency types but performs well and is recommended at low frequency to medium frequencies.


  • Braided shield does not guarantee 100% coverage, typical 70% to 95% coverage (depends on how tight the branded formation is woven) (combinations of braided and foil offer optimum screening where important)
  • Bulky, so may not be suitable for micro-products or tight spaces.
  • Costs more and requires more time to produce.
  • Not as easy as foil shielding to terminate.

Foil Shielding

Using a thin layer of copper or aluminum with a polyester backing to increase durability. Uses a tinned copper drain wire to ground the shield.

Not very durable and its elements are fragile. Poor flex life and virtually no mechanical strength. Not recommend for high-flex applications.

Offers 100% shielding coverage and can stand up to high-frequency RFI applications.

Lightweight and inexpensive.
