To conform with the new batteries directive if your product incorporates a battery, or can be fitted with a battery, you must provide the user with instructions on how to safely remove the battery (typcially in the user manual or documentation supplied with a product).

General User Manual Statements To Consider

The following are some general sample statements to consider including in your user manual text if your product uses batteries:-

Only the following type of batteries should be used:

Do not mix old and new batteries.

Do not use the following types of batteries

Remove batteries before storing the product for extended periods of time.

Do not dispose of old batteries in a fire as they may explode.

Do not open or mutilate the batteries. Released electrolyte from the batteries is corrosive and may cause burns or injury to the eyes or skin. The electrolyte may be toxic if swallowed.

Exercise care when handling the batteries. Do not allow conductive materials such as rings, bracelets or keys to touch the batteries, otherwise a short circuit may cause the batteries and / or conductive material to overheat and cause burns.
